This programme is aimed at graduates whose level of statistical or mathematical training is high, but below that of the BSc Degree Honours in Statistics, and who have demonstrated numerical ability. Course Description
Ireland is home to over 250 global financial institutions and there are opportunities for Higher Diploma Statistics graduates in industry, government, IT, economics and finance. This programme provides students with a good background in statistical theory and methods, which can be used in a variety of areas of application.

On successful completion of the programme you will be able to apply basic statistical reasoning, techniques and models in the analysis of real data, understand the context in which statistical work is done, select appropriate statistical models for different applications, interpret results, and demonstrate programming skills, report writing skills and presentation skills

Vision and Values Statement
This programme is aimed at students with a numerate background, but below that required for direct entry into the MSc or MA in Statistics, but who nevertheless have a strong interest in the subject. Throughout the course of this programme students take a small number of modules at early undergraduate level in statistics in order to give them a solid underpinning in the foundations of statistics, together with some more advanced undergraduate level modules. This should broadly bring students to the level of a four-year B.Sc. Degree. On completion of this programme, students should be well prepared for a career in industry. Additionally, the H.Dip in statistics may serve as an entry route for the M.Sc. in statistics. We expect our students to become autonomous learners. They will be capable of solving relevant problems in the language of statistics. Our graduates will be in demand by employers and academic research institutes for their ability to use the tools they have learned to explain, describe and predict. We value students who are motivated to find the underlying causes and reasons for observations and patterns. We aim to provide a teaching and learning environment that develops confidence and independence through a wide variety of interactive formats, both inside and outside the classroom.
