Additional City and Guilds Assessment fees and registration fee will also apply. These fees will be collected by the exams office during the course of the programme. |

Course Content |
Aims
This unit enables the candidate to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully machine by Computer Numerical Control (CNC).
At the end of this module the learner will:
• be able to produce CNC part-programs using simulation software
• be able to set-up CNC machine tools
• be able to produce parts using CNC machine tools
• be able to reinstate the work area |
Subjects Taught |
This programme is focused on programming 3-axis CNC milling and 2-axis lathe work. It includes part-programming, preparation of the machine, selection and the preparing of the required methods of work holding, the selection and the correct mounting of tooling. It also covers the operations required and safe working practices to complete the machining operations.

Assessment Method |
Students can complete a range of LIT assessments and be provided with a Special Purpose Award for the module. These LIT assessments include a continuous assessment plus a written examination.
Students are also eligible to register for and sit the CILT CPC Examination. Details of these examinations are provided by the CILT at www.cilt.ie.
Normally these examinations are held in January, June and September each year. |
