Applicants who have been awarded an upper second class honours or higher in the Higher Diploma in Mathematical Sciences are eligible for the programme.
Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0 in each element), or equivalent.
Students meeting the programme’s academic entry requirements but not the English language requirements, may enter the programme upon successful completion of UCD’s PreSessional or International PreMaster’s Pathway programmes. The UCD MSc Mathematical Science is designed for mathematics and applied mathematics graduates with a passion for their subject and a desire to up skill to a level required to embark on a career in research.
Vision & Values Statement
This programme is aimed at students who wish to gain a deep understanding of mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics at the graduate level and will equip such students with the skills necessary to carry out research at the frontier of mathematical knowledge. We expect our students to gain a thorough understanding of mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics at the graduate level, as well as a broad understanding of areas of modern mathematical science under active research.We expect our students to become autonomous learners and researchers capable of setting their own research agenda. They will be capable of solving relevant problems in the language of mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. Our graduates will be suitably qualified for research at the PhD level in an area of mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics, and will be valued for their technical knowledge and research skills. Equally, our graduates will be in demand by employers for their ability to use the tools they have learned to explain, describe and predict.We value students who already have a strong mathematical training and are motivated to take this understanding further. We aim to provide a teaching and learning environment that develops confidence and independence through a wide variety of interactive formats, both inside and outside the classroom.
