Hide-What is this programme about?
This Certificate is designed to fill a national skills deficit. These types of courses are not taught on the majority of electronics or IT academic programmes but the specific skill is an absolute requirement for all Information Communications Technology (ICT) companies in developing network technology and for all organisations who operate an IT or ICT network. The requirement for this skillset has a particular current requirement as IT and telecommunications technologies converge.
On completion of the programme learners should be able to:
• Describe the reasons for connecting networks with routers and how routed networks transmit data through networks using TCP / IP;
• Describe static and dynamic routing and how a router determines the path for particular IP streams;
• Demonstrate mechanisms for managing firmware and configuration information plus the mechanisms for password recovery on a standard switch and router;
• Configure of static and dynamic routing using Routing Internet Protocol (RIP) on a standard router;
• Describe the function of Wide Area Networks (WAN), the major devices of WANs and configure the Point to Point Protocol (PPP) encapsulation for serial connections between standard routers;
• Describe, configure and implement standard Wireless LANs technologies.
