Vision and Values Statement
The Higher Diploma in Economics is aimed at students willing to study economics at Master level but with no prior background in the subject. It equips students with knowledge of the fundamentals of economic theory as well as knowledge of key issues in some sub-fields of economics
Programme Outcomes
understand the underlying theories used in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics;
understand basic econometric approaches to model economic phenomena, estimate the resulting model, and interpret the estimated parameters;
display mature literacy and comprehension of economic subject matters;
identify, understand and analyse economic problems;
communicate and explain the reasoning behind applied economic analysis;
be in a position to apply for Master Programs in Economics.
The Higher Diploma in Economics (Full-time) is a one-year 60 credit (ECTS) programme. It is designed for students who wish to undertake further postgraduate study such as the taught MSc but whose undergraduate degree does not reach the required standard in economics. The minimum entry requirement for the taught MSc is an overall GPA of 3.08 (B-) or 2H1 in the Higher Diploma.
Students who do not plan to take further postgraduate study but who wish to enhance their economics education are also welcome.

Assessment Method |
At least 20% of the final grade for all modules will be made up of continuous assessment. The form of assessment will depend on the lecturer and the level and subject matter of the module but possibilities include multiple choice tests, essays and computer-based project work. The balance of the final grade will consist of a final exam. |
