SETU is delighted to confirm that the ‘second chance’ maths entry exam will continue again in 2023.
The purpose of this exam is to provide applicants with a second chance opportunity to achieve the
minimum maths entry requirements. The examination will follow the standard format based on the existing leaving certificate ordinary level paper.

Attaining a qualifying standard in the SETU maths exam does not in itself guarantee a place on any course at SETU. The cut off points and normal eligibility criteria will still apply. CAO offers are subject to available places post Round 1. Date of the maths exam for 2023 to be confirmed.

Hide-This scheme provides for the scoring of applicants presenting QQI FET/FETAC examination results. The scored results will be entered into the CAO system in the normal way.

QQI FET/FETAC has introduced a new awards system known as the Common Awards System, or CAS. All QQI FET/FETAC awards will be part of CAS from 2014. CAS awardswill replace existing linked QQI FET/FETAC awards.

As a result a new scoring system for QQI FET/FETAC awards will apply for entry through CAO to higher education from 2013. This scoring system will apply to all relevant QQI FET/FETAC level 5 and 6 awards listed on the CAO and higher education institution website. See QQI FET/FETAC Scoring Process tab for details..

Minimum Entry Requirements
The following minimum entry requirements will apply to graduates of QQI FET/FETAC Level 5 seeking admission to courses at Waterford Institute of Technology:

Higher Certificate (Level 6): Minimum entry: QQI FET/FETAC Level 5 or Level 6 award.

Ab-initio Degree (Level 7): Minimum entry: QQI FET/FETAC Level 5 or Level 6 award.

Ab-initio Honours Degree (Level 8): Minimum entry: QQI FET/FETAC Level 5 or Level 6 award including a distinction grade in at least three modules.

A full QQI FET/FETAC award normally contains eight modules. Where a full award is accumulated over more than one academic year, it is the responsibility of the applicant to apply to QQI FET/FETAC for a full award. A record of achievement does not meet these minimum entry standards.

How to Apply
Applications must be made through the CAO by the 1st February. If you are taking QQI FET/FETAC examinations in the current acaemic year, please ensure to enter your PPS number on page one of the CAO application form.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programmes

Whilst QQI FET/FETAC applicants may meet the requirements outlined above and be eligible for a nursing degree programme, due to the smallnumber of places availalbe, a random selection system is operated by the CAO.

Rules for eligibility
Progression is on the basis of achieving a Level 5 or 6 major award, with a minimum credit value of 120. Component awards, or achievement of less than 120 credits, wil not suffice.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that their QQI FET/FETAC registered centre applies to QQI FET/FETAC for a major award prior to application to CAO.

A major award may be achieved over more than one year. Waterford Institute of Technology requires tha an applicant's major award must be achieved and/or scored in a single sitting i.e over one certification year, between 1 August and 31 July.

In addition some programmes in higher education require achievement of specified component awards, specific grades in individual component awards, or additional awards such as mathematics. Applicants are advised to confirm details of any specific requirementswith the Admissions Office of the individual higher education institution. Details may also be found in the QQI FET/FETAC section of the CAO website.

Fill out the CAO form before either 1 February or the late application deadline on 1 May. Please note that students applying for WD027 BA (Hons) in Music must apply by 1 February. Applicants who are applying on mature grounds for nursing must also apply by 1 February.

Mature Applicants – Change of Mind
The Change of Mind facility becomes available after 1st May and the closing date is 1st July. The Change of Mind Facility affords you an opportunity, if you wish, to change the order of preference only of your course choices.
If you introduce a new programme to your list of choices by way of Change of Mind, you will compete for a place on that programme based on your Leaving Certificate or FETAC results only.
Restricted-Application Course – WD027 BA Music – if added for the first time via a Change of Mind is invalid and will not be considered. Closing date is 1st February.
Nursing - If you are competing under mature grounds for nursing, you may not enter on a Change of Mind any nursing code, unless at least one such nursing code was among your choices at 1st February and you have taken the aptitude test in the year you seek admission.

Be sure to complete any action well in advance of closing dates. You should avoid making an application close to a closing date. No extensions to closing dates will be allowed and all application fees are non-refundable.

LATE APPLICATIONS
Late Applications are those which are received after 5pm on 1 February 2023. The closing date for late applications is 5pm on 1 May 2023, subject to the restrictions listed on page 3 of the 2023 CAO Handbook. The online facility for late applications opens on the 6 March 2023 at 12:00 noon - a fee of €60 applies.

Exceptional Late Applications (Exception to the timetable)
The exceptional closing date of 22 July at 5pm applies only to applicants who are registered as an undergraduate student on 1 May 2023 in any year in any one of the participating HEIs (subject to the exclusions listed below). In order to avail of the Exceptional Late Application facility you must have entered the HEI through the CAO system. This is an exceptional late closing date and all steps must be completed by 5pm on 22 July. No changes may be made after this date.

If you did not enter your current course through the CAO system, you must first contact the Admissions Office of the HEI to which you wish to apply and they will inform you if you may submit an application direct to the institution.

Exclusions:
You may submit a late application only for entry to courses other than your existing course. If you wish to repeat the year in the same course you must arrange this within your HEI.

Mary Immaculate College Limerick, Marino Institute of Education, Trinity College Dublin, University of Limerick, Maynooth University have special procedures in place in the case of current or previous students who wish to apply for entry to another course in the same HEI. Such applicants must contact their Admissions Office to determine the application procedure. However, if you are a student in another HEI and you wish to apply to any of these five HEIs, you should apply through CAO.

About the course
The Economics and Finance stream on the BBS (Honours) programme provides students with the opportunity to specialise in Economics and Finance for the final two years of their degree, taking modules such as Financial Economics, Economic Policy Issues, and Investments. The stream applies economics and finance concepts to key contemporary issues such as Brexit, Crypto currencies, and economic crises. Students are given the opportunity of testing theories on real-world data. The stream provides students with skills that are hugely in demand in the market place. It provides a great platform for postgraduate studies, with many past graduates undertaking the Economics and Finance stream of the MBS degree in SETU and several have continued their studies and obtained a PhD qualification.

Human Resource Management
About the course
The Human Resource Management stream offers a professional qualification that develops the skills, knowledge and competencies required of Human Resource Professionals today. The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). The stream covers all areas of human resource management (HRM), employee development, employee wellbeing and employment relations developing links with HRM and the broader business environment. The modules balance practical Human Resource Management skills that can be applied in the everyday operational role of Human Resource professionals and developing strategic competencies.

The Management stream is designed to enable students to develop a broad set of conceptual, technical and interpersonal skills required to manage efficiently and effectively in a global business environment. This stream has been developed to respond to current industry skills needs. The stream offers students the scope and opportunity to enhance their management development capabilities and facilitate improvements in management practices within companies. There are significant employment and promotion opportunities at management level.

Accounting
About the course
The Accounting stream prepares students mainly for careers in accountancy, but can also provide graduates with opportunities in financial services and teaching.

The course attracts extensive exemptions from Charted Accountants Ireland (ACA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Ireland.

Marketing
About the course
The Bachelor of Business (Honours) Marketing stream prepares students for employment in marketing related positions in the digital age. The modules are designed to develop the knowledge and skills required in a marketing professional. The programme includes lab work, seminars, case studies and live projects that provide the competencies required to be a successful marketer. It also uses an innovative blend of real-world situations and problems to assist participants in exploring the opportunities of the digital environment.
