Entry Requirements |
There are no educational entry requirements. Learners should be aware, however, that safety goggles/glasses, boots, gloves, welding shield (automatic type if one prefers) and overalls/workshop coat are required to participate in this programme. Please note that these items are not provided by LIT.
An adequate level of English is required to participate in this course for Health & Safety reasons. |
Course Content |
Learners will be able to use an electric Arc welder and a MIG welder. Aims to give an introduction to the introduction to the basics of Arc & MIG welding, welding procedures, electrode selection, MIG settings/machine set up, welding of several joints in both the horizontal and vertical positions.
Qualification
An LIT certificate of completion will be issued to eligible participants. |

What modules will I study?
Welding of mild steel plate - 3mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, horizontal and vertical joints with both the Arc and MIG to yield - Fillet, Butt, Corner and Lap joints.
Welding of light box and angle iron electrode selection - 2.5mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm.
General introduction into welding procedures and technology.
Setting up of welding equipment in terms of plant parameters and machine settings. |
Assessment Method |
Continuous assessment will take place throughout the 10 weeks. There will be no examination. |
