Module 2: Building Defects Detection and Analysis
(Semester 2) September - December
Blended delivery involving online practical activities with two face to face practical workshops held during the Semester. 2 hours online every week and 2 full day workshops over Semester 2.

Entry Requirements |
Applicants will require a minimum Level 7 award in relevant cognate areas.
Mature students (23 years of age on 1st January preceding application) can apply.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum entry requirements but who have sufficient industry experience by applying to utilise TUS’s RPL policy and procedures. |

Hide-The aim of the Energy Renovation for Traditional Buildings programme is to up-skill building professionals to develop knowledge and skills that allow them to design and deliver high quality, energy-efficient renovations to existing traditional buildings (pre 1940s). This will also place them in a position to contribute to meeting Ireland's climate action and energy targets in relation to the green renovation of buildings.
This programme is developed through the DASBE project, funded by HCI Pillar 3 initiative in conjunction with the Heritage Council.

Module 1: Fundamentals in Energy Renovation of Traditional Buildings
(Semester 1) June - September
Full daytime lecture: 6 hours, every 2nd Friday in TUS Limerick School of Art and Design, LSAD, Limerick (Semester 1): 3/6/22, 17/6/22, 1/7/22, 15/7/22, 29/7/22 (9.30-12.30 & 1.30-4)
This module is to provide the student with the relevant knowledge of the underpinning principles of building specifications, typical construction performance characteristics, environmental approaches, appropriate methodologies and solutions during the energy renovation of traditional buildings (pre 1940s). Live guest speakers and online quizzes leading to a final reflective renovation project.
Module 2: Building Defects Detection and Analysis
(Semester 2) September - December
Blended delivery involving online practical activities with two face to face practical workshops held during the Semester. 2 hours online every week and 2 full day workshops over Semester 2.
Students will gain practical experience in the use of digital tools for detecting and analysing defects in existing buildings prior to energy upgrades. Techniques for sensitive data gathering in accordance with best practice conservation principles will be applied. Students will be shown how the use of thermal imaging cameras, scanners and other tools can be used to capture building defects.
