Hide-The Postgraduate Certificate in Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion is a one-year 30-ECTS taught programme that aims to provide students or professionals who have an academic interest in this area with an opportunity to develop their expertise and get a formal qualification in gender, diversity and inclusion. This programme provides a very solid basis in theories of gender, diversity, and inclusion, and gives students an opportunity to put that knowledge into practice through working on a project, in some cases in collaboration with an NGO, community organisation, or advocacy group.

Hide-The core modules ensure that all students develop a solid basis in theory and practice related to gender, diversity, and inclusion, as well as learning key skills in data generation and analysis.
The core theory module will introduce existing scholarship on theories of gender, diversity and inclusion and explore the social and cultural debates contained in the classical texts of key thinkers. Students will learn to critically evaluate the paradigms that underpin gender, diversity and inclusion frameworks of analysis. The module will incorporate a strong emphasis on how gender intersects with sexuality, class, and ethnic and racial identities. In the core practice module, students will have an opportunity to conduct a short piece of research or directed analysis for an NGO, CVO or advocacy group sourced by individual students, or to pursue a brief project of particular interest to them that is not done in collaboration with an organisation, but which is of public interest.
Core modules in research methods will focus on the principles and practices of qualitative methodologies for researching gender, diversity and inclusion. Approaches to research design, methodological approaches and their application to gender and diversity issues will be explored through discussion and critical examination of key studies. Students will learn to engage with methods of analysing, interpreting, and presenting research data in a way that is both accessible and supports research objectives. In both Research Skills modules, there is a strong focus on the development of digital skills and on ethical approaches to research data.
Core Modules (30 ECTS)
CFA601 Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion in Theory (10 ECTS)
CFA602 Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion in Practice (10 ECTS)
CFA603 Research Skills 1: Data Collection (5 ECTS)
CFA604 Research Skills 2: Data in Practice (5 ECTS)
In order to facilitate participants who are working, all of the core modules will be timetabled on one afternoon each week during term time.
