This Design (Year 2) course aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competency necessary to work and study in the area of creative design.
Through a broad creative journey, the Design (Year 2) course content focuses on the technology and many practical applications in relation to art and design. Experimentation with materials and construction methods will form the basis of the students portfolio and skill set. The role of a designer will be studied in real life projects, while integrating with a broad range of disciplines and modules.

2. Back to Education Allowance (BTEA)
The Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) allows people in receipt of certain social welfare payments to retain those payments whilst participating in approved full-time courses in further education.

3. Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS)
This scheme allows unemployed people aged over 21 to engage in education and training without losing their benefits. It applies to all courses offered at Cavan Institute and applicants must be in receipt of one of a number of social welfare supports for at least six months.

4. HEA Fund for Students with Disabilities
The Higher Education Authority’s “Fund for Students with Disabilities” allocates funding to further and higher education colleges for the provision of services and supports to full-time students with disabilities. What is the deadline for receipt of applications?
June 1st is the closing date for receipt of applications for first round offers. However, applications will be accepted and processed on courses where places are available following this date and second round offers will be made to eligible applicants who apply after that date.

Jobs available to graduates of this course are diverse and include a range of occupations in 3D design, visual communication, user interface (UI) design, graphic design, architectural design practices and organisations, craft specialists, local authorities, specialist design offices, media, product design and furniture design. Students will develop a competitive edge by producing a portfolio of creative designs that are production ready.
Further Study
Through compiling an extensive portfolio as part of this level 6 course, the student will enhance their application to further and higher education. A visual portfolio and the content and context that a level 6 programme provides can demonstrate design exploration directly relevant to the programme they wish to apply for. In such cases, it is possible to gain module exemptions and/or entry to an advanced stage of a degree programme.
