This programme will introduce students to the concept of Entrepreneurship, and to examine some of the key strategic issues in relation to new venture creation in Ireland. Students can then build on the knowledge gained and apply it in a practical format through a structured business plan.
On completion of this programme, students should be able to:
• Define the characteristics of an entrepreneur and identify the traits associated with entrepreneurs;
• Demonstrate an appreciation of the idea generation process involved in a new venture;
• Differentiate between the management and marketing practices of a new venture and those of an established business;
• Show an awareness of the legal and intellectual property issues involved in starting a new business;
• Describe the methods used to acquire seed capital for a new venture and show an awareness of the various aspects of the financial management of new venture;
• Demonstrate an ability to critique case studies of entrepreneurial new ventures;
• Formulate a business plan for an Entrepreneurial new venture and present and defend the recommendations of the business plan.
