Hide-What is International Agricultural Engineering?
This course is jointly run by Agricultural Engineering departments in three EU countries, namely Ireland (Institute of Technology, Tralee), France (University of Burgundy) and Italy (University of Bologna, UNIBO). The academic year will be in four 12 week block, as follows.
- September to November in Tralee campus
- December to Mid March in Bologna, Italy campuses
- Mid March to May in Burgundy, France campus
- June to August Internship in Italy or France plus thesis.
The farm machinery industry in Europe has undergone significant change in the last ten years. Technologies such as variable rate applications and GPS are intrinsic to precision farming and are now commonly employed. Advanced sensor technology, control and automation, data acquisition and analysis are paramount to efficient farming practices. Tractors and implements are now using communication protocols such as CanBus and IsoBus.
European directives have impacted on emission controls and safety standards in vehicles, trailed and mounted implements under Tractor Mother Regulations (TMR).
Larger machines are impacting on soil integrity where compaction in soil is becoming more problematic.
European Original Equipment and indigenous manufacturers are seeking graduates with the above skill sets as well as solid design competencies in areas such as 3D solid modelling, Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
Why study International Agricultural Engineering at MTU - Kerry Campus?
- The major players in the European farm equipment sector such as CASE New Holland, John Deere, AGCO, Fendt, Valtra and others have all links to the above Educational Institute / Universities.
- Irish industry also such as McHale, Dairymaster, Abbey, Tanco, HiSpec and Samco amongst others are leading the way in the export of farm machinery and are very strong in developing new concepts and designs.
- Graduates from this course will be exposed to the European Agricultural Engineering market
- Demand from European Industry and required skill sets have culminated in the development of this add-on degree
- Opportunity to work in the Agricultural Machinery area internationally
