The Faculty of Engineering and Informatics is housed in one of the most modern and well-equipped facilities of its kind in the country. The common entry structure of this course allows you to experience many core aspects of software development while allowing you to change your specialisation entering second year if you have the required CAO points. Lecturers have extensive industry experience which enriches their teaching skills and competencies. You will be part of an exciting software development environment with advanced research and strong links to industry. You will enjoy a six-month work placement during your third year of the course giving you real industrial experience while undertaking a challenging project.

Cloud computing can be defined as the unification of devices, operating systems, data and storage into a single system. This honours degree (level 8) is designed to provide the education and training required to prepare you for a career in software design, focusing specifically on cloud computing. Cloud computing has been referred to as “climate change for IT” with a significant growth in employment opportunities in this area. The course introduces the student to various concepts of software design in the common first year. This is expanded further in second year and the first semester in third year with a greater specialisation in the implementation and testing of web and cloud-based software solutions using the latest technologies. In the final year of the course, the student undertake further specialised modules in cloud computing and complete a major project
