This module follows and builds on the knowledge of visual language and analysis skills introduced in FS10010 Perspectives on Media 1. In Spring, students will be introduced to a variety of approaches to interpreting and understanding media in context. Topics may include: Gender, Nation, Historical context, Race, Sexuality, and Industrial context among others. The class will include case studies in film, television, and other media forms.
Learning Outcomes:
• Ability to analyse media for its aesthetic representation of social, cultural and political context
• An understanding of how media changes in relation to technological, historical, and cultural changes
• Organise a basic, cogent argument about a media text and defend it with visual and aural evidence from the film, television show, or other media product
