Candidates intending to pursue Qualified Person status should have an appropriate primary degree that conforms to the specific requirements for primary qualifications listed in European Directives 2001/83/EC and 2001/82/EC. There is also a requirement to have completed a minimum of two years practical industrial experience in an appropriate manufacturing environment.

Applicants with other qualifications and with relevant work experience may also be considered through ATU Sligo’s Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) process. RPL is a process that may allow you to gain admission to a programme or to receive exemptions / credit from some parts of a programme based on demonstrated learning that you may have achieved through another programme of study or through your work and career. Hide-The Master of Science in Industrial Pharmaceutical Science has been developed by the School of Science at the Atlantic Technological University, Sligo Campus. The award is an MSc of atu Sligo. The course comprises 6 modules, providing teaching in 22 major subject areas and an MSc Research Project. For suitably qualified and candidates who wish to pursue Qualified Person Status, the course fulfils the educational requirements required by European Directive 2001/83/EC and 2001/82/EC. The course is delivered by distance learning, with certain block attendance. The modular structure and credit system will facilitate studying for the degree while working.

Hide-The programme will consist of 6 core modules. Typically the duration of the programme will be part-time over 2 years for the 6 modules. A research project is carried out in 2nd year. However, students may also complete the programme over a longer period to offer flexibility for those in full time employment.

Two modules will be studied each year from January to June and one module from July to December with the research project running from March to December in the 2nd year. The project provides each student with an opportunity to apply knowledge gained from the taught modules.

Exams will run in May and January in ATU Sligo and an exam centre in Dublin and repeat exams in August of each year in ATU Sligo

Modules may be taken individually or on a standalone basis

Key Course Information

Whether you are studying part-time online, blended or full-time online, it is very important that you allocate enough study time to your online course to stay focused, reduce stress and achieve your goals. For part-time online or blended learning, it is recommended that you should try to allow for 5-6 hours per week per 5 credit module to your studies.

Most online courses typically involve 3 x 5 credit modules per semester which leads to an average 15 – 18 study hours per week. Our online courses have about 3 hours of live lectures per week (but this can vary per programme). The rest of your study time consists of independent learning, communicating with your lecturers and classmates and carrying out assignments.

Live lectures normally take place between 6pm and 10pm, Monday to Thursday but this may vary depending on the availability of specific lecturers. If the Live Classroom scheduled times for the live online lectures do not suit you, recordings will be made available through Moodle.
