Family Support is a framework that encompasses a wide range of activities that aim to strengthen positive social networks within the community through community-based courses and services. Early intervention in the promotion of health, well-being and the rights of all children and their families is a key focus, with particular emphasis on serving the vulnerable and at-risk.
Participants will analyse the theories of Family Support and develop the ability to critically examine its evolution as a practice, also examining the impact of family challenges on the child and wider family.
They will gain a strong understanding of ethical responsibility to clients, agencies and other professionals and gain awareness of the various methods of intervention in the family support approach.
On completion of this course students should be able to:
• Critically analyse theories of Family Support.
• Critically reflect on their ethical responsibilities to clients, family members, agency and other professionals.
• Evaluate different interventions for responding to people using a Family Support approach.
• Analyse the impact of that family challenges pose to children and the family.
• Recognise the value of Family Support intervention for children and families.
