To become an apprentice in Ireland you must be hired by an employer. Apprenticeship employers are formally approved by SOLAS in advance of employing apprentices. Apprentices get a formal contract of employment as part of their apprenticeship.

Course Content |
Working as a painter and decorator, your job will be to apply paint coatings, wall coverings and other materials internally and externally for decorative and preservation purposes. You will be involved in designing and producing sign work and displays and advise on colour selection and interior design. A painter and decorator can also be involved in the renovation and restoration of period buildings. |

You may then choose to work as a painter and decorator with building or painting contractors or to be self-employed. Painter and decorators may work in private dwellings and commercial or industrial locations.
Many craftspersons use their qualification as a platform to launch careers such as managers, owners of businesses and instructors amongst others.
