Entry Requirements Applications should possess a primary degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. history, archaeology, geography, Irish studies) with at least second class honours (Primary Degree: Level 8 - National Qualifications Authority of Ireland). Applicants with approved equivalent qualifications, who have substantial experience in historical research or relevant professional experience may also be considered for admission.
Course Content Reconstructing the life and dinnseanchas of local communities in the past fulfils a real need in people who identify with or belong to that locality. Though long regarded primarily as the territory of the antiquarian and the leisured scholar, local history is moving in from the margins of university teaching and scholarship and there is a growing awareness that its practice can benefit from the broader paradigms and the research methods used in history and the human sciences.
