Hide-The Continuing Professional Development modules in Nursing and Midwifery are open to registered health care professionals in Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, and Clinical Therapies or other allied disciplines.
Applicants who are under 23 years of age must satisfy the minimum entry requirements as for the Degrees in Nursing or Midwifery, as set out here
Admission to the module(s) will be subject to internal university approval processes on the recommendation of the Head of School.
Applicants must satisfy the following:
Normally hold a Honours primary degree (minimum of a Second Class Honours Grade I):
in a relevant subject (e.g. nursing, medicine, pharmacy, clinical therapies, philosophy, law, theology, social sciences)
OR
in any discipline and either possess a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field or show evidence of at least two years' work experience in a relevant field.
Applicants must be practising professionals (Nursing, Medicine, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Education or other allied disciplines) with registration with the relevant professional regulatory body. Applicants for MH6014 must have achieved a pass result in a postgraduate research methods module equivalent to NU6005 (10 credits).
Applicants for Nursing and Midwifery CPD modules whose main language is not English and who do not hold an up-to-date IELTS certificate showing the requisite Academic Board approved CM&H scores must demonstrate evidence of appropriate work experience within an English language environment for at least the previous 2 years.
These modules will not necessarily run unless minimum recruitment targets of 10 students are achieved. Students will be encouraged to take one or two modules per annum to a maximum of 15 credits.

Hide-Module Objective: To develop advanced knowledge of research information literacy resources, research designs and methods. To develop proficiency in relation to research appraisal and synthesis.
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Identify appropriate research problems and consequential opportunities for research
Develop a deep understanding of a variety of research designs
Appraise and interpret research based evidence
Explain data analytical processes and procedures
Devise a Research Protocol/Ethical Application
Promote understanding of relevant institutional guidelines to obtain research ethics approval.

Module Content: Advanced information literacy strategies, academic writing, ethical considerations, methodological approaches, processes involved in research protocol development, data collection, data coding, analysis and interpretation, systematic research appraisal and synthesis. |
Assessment Method |
Assessment: Total Marks 200: Continuous Assessment 200 marks (3,000 word research proposal assignment - 180 marks; E-tivities - 20 marks).
Pass Standard and any Special Requirements for Passing Module: 50%. |
