You can also use the Eligibility Reckoner where you can quickly and easily self-assess whether you may be eligible for a grant. The 1916 Bursary Fund was announced by the Minister for Education and Skills on 30 December, 2017. The purpose of this funding is to encourage participation and success by students from sections of society that are significantly under-represented in higher education.
The Fund for Students with Disabilities allocates funding to further and higher education colleges for the provision of services and supports to full-time students with disabilities. The Fund aims to ensure that students can participate fully in their academic programmes and are not disadvantaged by reason of a disability. For more information including a list of eligible higher education institutions under the 1916 Bursary Fund click here
The Student Assistance Fund provides financial support to full or part-time students who are experiencing financial difficulties while attending college. Students can apply for the Student Assistance Fund to help with either temporary or ongoing financial difficulties. The Student Assistance Fund is designed to provide a source of financial support in addition to a SUSI grant.
If you are unemployed, parenting alone or have a disability and are getting certain payments from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, you may take part in a second-or third-level education course and get a Back to Education Allowance.
Tuition fees may be paid in respect of full-time undergraduate students undertaking approved courses in eligible institutions. Details of the eligibility criteria are listed here
Did you know that there is a broad range of bursary and scholarship schemes in operation which provide an opportunity for students, or potential students, to access additional financial support if they meet the criteria? Please note that the list does not contain every scheme currently available in Ireland. For more information click here. In addition, many higher education institutions offer their own scholarship or bursary schemes. Interested students should contact the college they are attending or planning to attend.
SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland) funding is available for students to pursue postgraduate courses in approved institutions. The eligibility criteria are available on the SUSI website.
Uversity's Scholarships are for adult learners to acquire a Bachelor's Degree for the first time that will help transform their lives and the lives of those around them. Scholarships enable successful candidates to pursue a degree in any discipline in selected institutions on the island of Ireland. Preference is given to candidates enrolling on full-time programmes. Other programmes will be considered on a case by case basis.
The Scholarships comprise financial support and programming throughout the course of the degree. The value of the Scholarships depends on the successful recipients' circumstances and need. Payments are made monthly and are subject to continued academic registration and progress.
For successful candidates who are leaving employment to pursue a degree, the loss of earnings will be taken into account when determining the Scholarships' values. Successful candidates in the Republic of Ireland in receipt of means-tested social welfare benefits and, or SUSI grants can receive a maximum scholarship of €7,000 without impacting these supports. Successful candidates in Northern Ireland should seek advice from Student Finance Northern Ireland and, or their local tax credit office to confirm any impact of a Scholarship.
