National Europass Centre (National Reference Point)

Europass, managed by the European Commission, operates via an on-line platform and is a central source of information and free web-based tools to assist individuals with management of their careers and lifelong learning.

The Europass initiative was established by the Decision 2241/2004/EC of the European Parliament and the Council in 2004 . Its aim is to make a person's skills and qualifications clearly understood throughout Europe.

The New Europass Platform

Following the adoption of the revised Europass Decision of the European Parliament and Council in May 2018 a new Europass is in development.

The New Europass platform will be a secure, accessible and user-friendly platform that carries a set of web-based tools and information to support individuals in managing the different stages of their career and learning.

This online platform is being developed by the European Commission in regular consultation with the Europass advisory group and other key stakeholders.

The New Europass will include:

  • the Europass e-Portfolio: an online tool for users to describe their skills, find interesting job and learning opportunities, to manage their applications, and create CVs and cover letters.
  • Information Provision on working and studying in different EU countries.
  • Digitally signed credentials: free tools and software for institutions to issue digital, tamper-proof qualifications and other learning credentials.
  • Interoperability: Europass can connect with employment and learning services to allow users connect and make applications. For more information click here

Europass for individuals

Individuals need information and tools to find employment and training opportunities and communicate their skills. In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Commission seeks to ensure that the new Europass can support people who face new labour market challenges and offers online tools such as Europass.

Europass can be used to:

  • Create your free Europass profile to manage learning and working at home and in Europe, setting goals, highlighting skills and experiences using the Europass digital tools.
  • Simply design CVs and cover letters using data stored in your Europass and safely manage and store all your career-related information in one EU tool.
  • Search for jobs and courses in Ireland and across the EU. Register to create a profile and receive suggestions of interesting jobs based on your skills and interests.
  • Find trusted national information and contact points on working and learning in Europe with Europass.
  • Receive and share digital degrees, diplomas and certificates from education and training institutions safely and free of charge with Europass Digital Credentials.

Europass for education and training providers

Education and training Providers can use Europass to:

  • Support students to use the free Europass profile to record their formal, non-formal and informal learning during their studies, to reflect on their learning, and to store their files and diplomas.
  • Issue Europass documents such as Qualification Certificate and Diploma Supplements and Europass Mobility to help people to communicate their skills, qualifications and experiences.
  • Issue, receive and authenticate trustworthy Europass Digital Credentials, e.g. degrees.
  • Access trustworthy information on skills and qualifications in Europe, including comparing and understanding qualifications frameworks and systems and understanding skills trends.

Europass for employers

Employers can use Europass to:

  • Access structured data and information directly from candidates/applicants.
  • Receive and authenticate trustworthy Europass Digital Credentials, e.g. degrees, diplomas and certificates from education and training institutions.
  • Access trustworthy information on skills and qualifications in Europe, including comparing and understanding qualifications frameworks and systems.
  • Support staff to use the free Europass profile and tools to record their professional development and reflect on their skills needs.

Europass for guidance and support services

Guidance and support services can use Europass to:

  • Support users to create their free Europass profile to manage learning and working in Europe; to highlight skills, qualifications and experiences, define their career and learning goals with Europass digital tools.
  • Guide users through the Europass tools to manage their learning and careers in their home country and further afield.
  • Support users to search the EU. Register for jobs and courses to create a profile and receive suggestions of interesting jobs based on their skills and interests.
  • Find trusted national information and contact points on working and learning in Europe with Europass.
