Going to College Podcast Series Independent.ie Education Podcast in association with QQI

Going to College is a four-part series helping you to prepare for some nerve-wracking - and exciting - weeks ahead, presented by Síona Cahill, former USI President.

From the Leaving Cert results to CAO offers and then making plans for college or elsewhere, it's stressful and life-changing, but this series will help with practical advice, tips and insights from experts in this area.

Ep 1: Preparing for the Leaving Cert Results

For this first episode, the Leaving Cert results are out on Tuesday 13th August and the days beforehand can be nerve-wracking. So, what can you expect on the day itself and what to do if you're not happy with the results you got?

To help you deal with the day, Síona is joined by Guidance Counsellor, Betty McLaughlin, Eric Ehgie, Welfare Officer with the Irish Second-Level Students Union and himself awaiting his Leaving Cert results, Mary Quirke from Career Confidence, and Colette Harrison, QQI's Manager of Awards and Certification.

Ep 2: CAO Offers - what to do next and what your options are

The CAO first round offers are out and it's mainly good news for students as 3 out of 4 who applied for Level 8 courses have got their first preference.

On the second episode of the Going to College series, presenter John Walshe, is joined by guidance counsellor, Betty McLaughlin, UCD Student Union’s Education Officer, Stephen Crosby and Padraig Walsh, CEO of Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), to discuss your options and next steps if you did/didn't get your first preference.

If you did get your first choice, you have until August 24th to accept by logging on to CAO.ie and ticking 'I accept' but if you're deferring you need to contact the college directly.

However, if you didn't receive an offer, this is only the beginning and courses will become available up to October. Don't forget about the PLC option as well to see if there is something that might be suitable for you.
