The Engineering Mathematics Qualifying Exam (EMQE) is an alternative route for prospective students to meet the minimum Mathematics requirements for undertaking an Engineering degree course. It gives Leaving Certificate students a second chance to pursue an Engineering or Computer Science programme in the College of Science & Engineering, University of Galway. Those electing to take the exam are offered a place on the Preparatory Course (EMPC) which takes place the week before the exam. Students who are applying through CAO, on completion of Leaving Certificate
Action on day of Leaving Certificate results
On the day Leaving Certificate results are released (if you wish to proceed with the exam), register for the exam and preparation course using the link on the webpage below. The link will not be active until the morning that Leaving Certificate results are released (August, 2024).
The School of Engineering at University of Galway runs a preparatory week long course (free of charge) to prepare students for the Engineering Maths Qualifying Examination - the course takes place immediately following Leaving Certificate results. All students who register for the exam will be offered a place on the preparatory course.
The course will take place online, in the week prior to the exam.
Admission to the preparatory course is limited to students who have applied for our programmes through the CAO.
