Further information

Start Date: January 2026

CAD, also known as computer-aided design, is the use of computers for the creation, modification and optimisation of design. It increases efficiency and productivity in the design process and improves quality while creating a database for manufacturing.

3D modelling is the process of creating a 3D representation of any surface or object by manipulating polygons, edges, and vertices in simulated 3D space. You can see the results of 3D modelling in movies, animations, and video games.

This programme equips participants with a solid understanding of 2D and 3D drawing and the software and hardware involved in the process. It allows learners to work on the typical composition of a CAD system including the development of 3D models of parts and assemblies; the generation of 2D drawings of mechanical parts, part lists and BOM for assemblies.

Learners will gain an understanding of the engineering design process and the part it plays in product manufacturing. Assessment for this programme includes two practical assignments and one GOLA online test.

Participants on this programme will gain strong technical knowledge and skills applicable to the work environment, or as a basis for further study in this area.

Assessment and grading
This unit will be assessed by:
Two assignments covering practical skills.
One GOLA online test.
