Graduates of this course in 3D Design and Graphics may progress to the following level 6 courses, Architectural Technology and Design (Year 2), Furniture Design (Year 2) and Design all available at Cavan Institute.

Elsewhere:
Graduates are also eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities (please check with the particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements).

Career Opportunities
Graduates of this course in 3D Design and Graphics will have the skills necessary to pursue a career in any design discipline, including 3D product design, architecture, furniture design, interior design, interior architecture, photography, graphic design, set design and fashion design. Mature Applicants
Cavan Institute welcomes mature applicants who wish to return to full-time education. Such applicants may not be required to have the minimum entry requirements. The Institute will look for satisfactory evidence of the applicants ability to pursue and benefit from the course. Mature applicants should apply online to the Institute and may be required to attend for interview as part of the selection process.

1. PLC Maintenance Grant
Means-tested maintenance grants are available to eligible students attending approved full-time courses of further education in approved Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) centres, of which Cavan Institute is one.
Applications can be made online to Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) through www.studentfinance.ie or www.susi.ie

2. Back to Education Allowance (BTEA)
The Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) allows people in receipt of certain social welfare payments to retain those payments whilst participating in approved full-time courses in further education.

3. Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS)
This scheme allows unemployed people aged over 21 to engage in education and training without losing their benefits. It applies to all courses offered at Cavan Institute and applicants must be in receipt of one of a number of social welfare supports for at least six months.

4. HEA Fund for Students with Disabilities
The Higher Education Authority’s “Fund for Students with Disabilities” allocates funding to further and higher education colleges for the provision of services and supports to full-time students with disabilities. Applications to the fund are made on behalf of an eligible student by Cavan Institute following an assessment.

How do I Apply?
On-line applications for the 2023/24 academic year are Open (via link below).
Please note you may apply to some Cavan Institute courses through the CAO system.

A valid personal email address must be used as most correspondence will be by email. Please don’t use your school email address as you may cease to have access to that address after you leave the school.

What is the deadline for receipt of applications?
June 1st is the closing date for receipt of applications for first round offers. However, applications will be accepted and processed on courses where places are available following this date and second round offers will be made to eligible applicants who apply after that date.

Prospective students do not have to attend for interview to obtain a place in Cavan Institute. Non-standard applicants, who do not meet the requirements as set out on our website, may be required to take a language or other form of assessment. All students attend general and class induction on commencement of their course in September.

When will I be offered a place on the PLC course?
Conditional offer letters/emails requesting payment of €50 booking deposit will be issued in March/April for first round offers. This fee is payable in order to secure your place. Please read and follow the instructions carefully on how to pay the booking deposit and upload documents specified in this correspondence. You will also be required to confirm that you wish to accept the course by completing and submitting a short online acceptance form.

Subsequent offers will be made throughout the summer to applicants who applied after 1st June. Please note that waiting lists may apply for late applicants. Cavan Institute has the right to cancel a course at any time if there is insufficient uptake of places.

About This Course
Students will gain a firm foundation in graphics, the design process and design theory in a studio-based environment. Using a hands-on approach, students will develop problem solving skills, including the ability to think creatively, three-dimensionally and technically. It is suited to students who want to pursue a career in design and enhance their career opportunities by developing a portfolio. There will be an opportunity to specialise in a chosen design discipline (3D Product Construction).
