Why choose this QQI Level 6 Childcare course?
This Advanced Level 6 Childcare ELC Certificate is designed with Early Years Educators/Lead Educators, and the children they will engage with in mind. The aim of the programme is to enable learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and competence to work as an Early Years Educator and/or Lead Educator, promoting and supporting the holistic needs of children from 0 to six years, and to take responsibility for a room or area within an Early Learning and Care setting.

This programme leads to an Advanced Certificate in Early Learning and Care at NFQ level 6. This programme is designed to meet the QQI professional award standards for Early Learning and Care at NFQ level 6.

The Level 6 Early Learning and Care programme comprises of 12 mandatory modules, six at stage 1 (Level 5) and six at stage 2 (level 6), enabling the learner to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies required to work as an autonomous Early Years Educator and/or Lead Educator in an Early Learning and Care setting, and take responsibility for an area or room, leading and coordinating the provision of a quality Early Learning and Care environment.

The focus is on promoting the holistic wellbeing, development and learning of children from 0 to six years across a range of Early Learning and Care settings. The programme offers a balance of theory and practice, and professional practice placement is integral to the teaching and learning. Learners who successfully complete the programme will have opportunities to progress into the workplace or into further and higher education.

Course Structure:
The QQI level 6 childcare (Early Learning and Care) course will consist of 3 terms, each term will be 12 weeks in duration, you will need to complete 2 modules during each term. There will be a break of 1 month in between each term.
Each week, new content will be uploaded to your online learning platform to study in your own time and pace. To support you with your study, 4 Live webinars will be scheduled during each term in the evening time during the working week however webinars will be recorded if you cannot attend.

A total of 2 mandatory face to face classroom days are required over the 12 months of the course, these are scheduled throughout the year in Dublin, Cork & Galway and are scheduled on weekends for approximately 2-3 hours.

Who should enrol?
The course will cater for a variety of adult learners with a minimum Level 5 Certificate in Early Years. Learners should have previously have completed a Level 5 award in Childcare and may have experience in working in ECCE settings but this will not be mandatory. Younger participants will tend to complete the course by the full-time method. Some mature adults will be seeking new career opportunities or be working in the home but many will be already working in the sector and either already be in supervisory positions or aspire to such positions. These will tend to opt for the part-time learning route to achieving the award.

Work Experience
To successfully complete the QQI level 6 childcare (Early Learning & Care) course, you will be required to spend 150 hours, in two early learning and care settings, divided as follows:
• You must spend a minimum of 50 hours working with children between the ages of 0 – 2.8 years.
• You must spend a minimum of 50 hours working with children between the ages of 2.8 – 6 years.
• You can spend the remaining 50 hours working with children across both age groups.
