The role of a fashion buyer is one of the most sought after careers in fashion and requires a combination of skills that need to be taught and learned. This leading Fashion Buying course is ideal for newcomers to fashion buying or for those with experience wishing to move into this exciting area.
At CMI, our expert fashion buying teachers understand every aspect of the fashion buying and merchandising process. They previously trained and worked in fashion buying for the most well known brands, and now teach the fashion buying process, so that you can apply what you learn.
During this intensive 10 week programme, you will learn the importance of observing the latest trends, to choosing the right product line, to arranging continuity of supply for the season, to final product decision making.
A collection of work throughout the course is required. Developing a fashion range is part of your project work. To demonstrate your creativity and flair, you will create a mood board and a fashion range of at least 10 pieces.
Trend forecasting and brand discovery is a key skillset of the role. Deciding the mix of brands to buy for next season and being on the lookout for new brands, designers and trends is hugely important. You will learn about monitoring upcoming trends to ensure that the season's collections match customer expectations.
In this demanding role you’ll need to be constantly trend spotting, and demonstrate a strong business sense and be a great communicator.
Quantitative and analytical skills are required for budgets and processing orders and keeping track of inventory. Planning and working with merchandisers will help you plan and make the right buying decisions. Sourcing fabric and materials for brands is another key aspect of the job where you could be responsible for sourcing fabric and materials for brands.
This 3 month Fashion Buying and Merchandising course is a Level 5 Minor Award 5N1445 awarded by QQI Quality & Qualifications Ireland.
Completing all assessments on this course, leads to a QQI level 5 Award in Fashion Buying & Merchandising and further opportunities are available to progress to a Fashion Design NFQ Level 5 Major Award 5M3865.
