Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 passes at ordinary level in the Leaving Certificate or its equivalent.

OR

Leaving Certificate Vocational, Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI Level 4 qualifications.

The Leaving Certificate is not a requirement for mature students and appropriate experience can be considered as being equivalent to the Leaving Certificate.

This innovative course offers students the opportunity, to develop their understanding of current global development issues and challenges. It examines the interactions and relationships between state and non-state actors within the global political/economic community. Students also explore the role of international institutions in international relations and development. It provides students with the theory and practical skills for a career in the development sector, working in non-governmental agencies or voluntary agencies.

Ireland’s Aid is delivered through the government aid programme, Irish Aid, as well as through many non-government organisations such as GOAL, Trocaire, Self-Help Africa and Concern. Graduates of this course will be well-equipped to work in global development agencies and organisations in the areas of fundraising, publicity, advocacy and development. The course is designed for both the school-leaver and the adult learner who has an interest in pursuing a career or further studies in global development.
