This 1 year, QQI Level 5 full time course equips learners with the skills and knowledge in Art & Design. Learners will explore, experiment and build on basic skills in a variety of media and disciplines. Drawing from observation is a core element as is the use of sketchbooks for research and creative thinking. this then leads to project work in other areas such as design, painting, print, ceramics and digital photography.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have Leaving Certificate, LCA or equivalent.

Holders of a QQI Level 4 Award are also eligible to apply.

Mature learners (over 23) may be exempt from the above academic requirements.

Places on the course are limited and will be allocated on the basis of a personal interview and a selection of applicant’s own work.

N.B. Applicants are advised to bring samples of their work to the interview.

• Holders of this qualification take up places in Third Level Colleges and Institutes of Technology/Technological University. TUS, NCAD, IADT, TUD, Crawford Art College, and Art Colleges abroad.

There are no tuition fees payable to the College by EU nationals. However, learners are liable for registration and examination fees. Registration fees vary depending on programme choice. Applicants will be informed of individual programme fees and possible exemptions at interview.

Means-tested Student Maintenance Grants are available to qualifying learners. The administration of these grants was handled by the former Vocational Education Committees (VECs) up to the 2011/12 academic year. A new ONLINE ONLY grant applications system was introduced in the 2012/13 academic year. All applications have to be made online to Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI), the single Awarding Authority for all new student grant applications, through www.susi.ie. If you are thinking of embarking on a programme with us, you should investigate whether you are eligible, and, if so, submit an application.

This approach leads to the development of a varied an exciting project lead portfolio, essential in progressing to Art college.

This course can lead onto Advance Art (Level 6) or onto further studies and third level colleges in Ireland and abroad.

The portfolio prepared during this course can by sued to apply of the portfolio assessment in LM076 Product Design and Technology or LM099 Architecture in the University of Limerick (UL).

On successful completion of this course learners will be awarded a 120 credit QQI Level 5 major award in Art, Craft and Design.
