The purpose of this award is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work in roles such as scriptwriting, art direction, camera, lighting, director and editor in film or television, or to progress to further or higher education and training.

Duration
This is a one-year full time course and runs from September to May.
Entry Requirements
- Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, or equivalent.
- Photography Level 5 QQI Award, or equivalent.
- Mature applicants with relevant experience are welcome.
Entry to this course is subject to interview.

Mayo College of Further Education & Training is offering no tuition fees for September 2026, which covers exam fees, student consumables, and journals. This includes courses across campuses in Ballina, Castlebar, and Westport, aimed at relieving the cost of living crisis. This one year Level 6 QQI course in Film & Photography provides a foundation in Film and Photography Studies and provides the opportunity to progress to employment or further study in the Film and Photography area. The course contains a mix of practical and theory elements with trips throughout the year. There is an opportunity to partake in Erasmus+ placements.

Field Trips
We encourage gaining experience by practical photography on field trips and have designed our assessment and project briefs to include interesting locations around Clew Bay and the Islands. Dublin is also on our agenda to visit art and photo exhibitions.
