Accounting Technician - Year 1 & Year 2
The Accounting Technicians Ireland qualification is divided into two parts, each of which is a qualification in its own right. The Certificate for Accounting Technicians (First Year) offers a progression pathway into the Diploma for Accounting Technicians.

Duration
2 years full-time. The Admission programme (Year 2) is offered subject to sufficient enrolment.
Entry Requirements
Five passes in the Leaving Certificate on Ordinary Level papers at Grade D or better or four passes at least two of which are on Higher Level papers at Grade D or better. Passes must be obtained in English and either Accounting or Mathematics. Leaving Certificate Applied with Distinction grade. Mature students are most welcome to apply.
Careers / Further progression
Progression
Students may achieve advanced entry (2nd year) to Business & Accounting courses in some third level colleges. Students may also work as qualified Accounting Technicians.
Students who study the Accounting Technician course in Plunket College of Further Education will acquire the skills and qualifications necessary to take up employment in the following areas: Assistant accountant, accountant, accounts administrator, credit controller, stock controller and banking.
Those who are successful in achieving the Diploma for Accounting Technician may proceed (with exemptions from certain subjects) to pursue a career in taxation.
Many of our students who qualify as an Accounting Technician often choose to continue their studies and use their ATI qualification as a stepping stone into other accountancy and business related areas.

Applications are welcome from Mature Students and VTOS applicants
Mature students are invited to apply 23 years and over.
All course fees €50.
Improving access to education for all – all City of Dublin PLC courses €50.
There are no costs associated with making an application for a course. (No Deposits)
Reduced fees for Accounting Technician who no longer have to pay QQI fees and Trinity Access Programme who are not now being charged extra for School Trips.
There are no fees for VTOS (Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme) courses.

1. PLC Maintenance Grant
Means-tested maintenance grants are available to eligible students attending approved full-time courses of further education in approved Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) centres, of which Plunket College of Further Education is one. Applications can be made online to Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) through www.susi.ie.
2. Back to Education Allowance (BTEA)
The Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) allows people in receipt of certain social welfare payments to retain those payments whilst participating in approved full-time courses in further education. See www.welfare.ie or www.studentfinance.ie for further details.
3. Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS)
This scheme allows unemployed adults (aged 21 years and older) to engage in education and training without losing their benefits. All our students may apply for the VTOS programme, including PLC students. There is a limited number of VTOS places so it is best to apply for a VTOS place early in the year of entry. Applicants must be in receipt of one of a number of the qualifying Social Welfare payments for at least six months (156 days) on the starting date of the course.
Applicants apply online directly to the college using our application form. Places on programmes are limited, early application and registration is advisable.
Accounting Technician
Year 1 (Certificate) / Year 2 (Diploma).
Course Description
This is a two year course leading to the qualification of a Professional Accounting Technician. An Accounting Technicians Ireland qualification is a job requirement for many employers. An Accounting Technicians qualification will lead to a career as an Assistant Accountant, Credit Controller, Accounts Supervisor and Payroll Administrator.

Year 2
For the Accounting Technicians Diploma you are required to gain experiential learning through two years full-time employment (or the equivalent part-time). The Diploma qualification is awarded on successful completion of all 8 subjects and two years relevant work experience.
