Accounting Technician - Year 1
The syllabus has been carefully designed to equip students with an array of transferable business skills, as well as technical knowledge of finance and accountancy practice. The programme provides students with expertise, experience and knowledge in the areas such as financial accounting and budgeting, costing and credit control, payroll and tax returns for various types of business.

Entry Requirements
Education: Leaving Certificate with five passes in Ordinary Level papers. (Passes to include English/ and either Mathematics or Accountancy) or Leaving Certificate with four passes of which at least two are in Higher Level papers. (Passes to include English and either Mathematics or Accountancy) or Learners who are sitting the Applied Leaving Certificate should contact the Registrar (register@AccountingTechniciansIreland.ie) directly for advice on whether they are eligible or Learners under 21 who have successfully completed a nationally recognized qualification such as QQI, QQI (Level 5), QCA or a BTEC National Diploma may also be eligible to apply. NFQ Level 5 in a relevant discipline when accessing a Level 6 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 6 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.
Aptitude: Learner Aptitude Good verbal and written communication skills are desirable. Accuracy in the use of numbers. Appropriate aptitude tests may be applied.
Previous Experience: Previous Experience Previous experience in book-keeping and / or accountancy desirable but not essential. Experience in using web based learning is an advantage.

The successful completion of the Certificate for Accounting Technicians will enable applicants to source a range of accounting and finance roles at entry level positions in the areas of business or finance.

The syllabus has been carefully designed to equip students with an array of transferable business skills, as well as technical knowledge of finance and accountancy practice. The programme provides students with expertise, experience and knowledge in the areas such as financial accounting and budgeting, costing and credit control, payroll and tax returns for various types of business.
The course includes an introduction to spreadsheets. Once a student has successfully completed all four Year 1 subjects they will receive the Certificate for Accounting Technicians award. Year 1 offers a progression pathway into the Diploma for Accounting Technicians qualification, the leading Accounting Technician qualification in Ireland.
This course is fulltime, however it is family friendly as holidays and class times are in keeping with post-primary school holidays. All course materials are provided. Applicants may be eligible for Back to Education or Susi Grant. Separate registration fees are payable to Accounting Technicians Ireland.

Demonstrate knowledge of accounting concepts and principles of accounting and technical
competency in the area of double entry accounting and accounts preparation for various types of
business.
Demonstrate knowledge, competencies and technical skills concerning the tax implications of
personal and business transactions.
Demonstrate knowledge of the core Business functions of Management, Marketing, Information
Technology and Finance, as well as an understanding of how these functions affect the running of
a modern business.
Explain the key concepts and fundamental principles of law and ethics and the practical
application of them in the context of business and commercial activities with emphasis on the
recognition of legal and ethical issues which may require the expertise of specialists.

Certification
Year 1 leads to an Accounting Technician Ireland Certificate. In addition to college registration, learners are required to register with the Accounting Technicians Ireland.
