This 8-week course focuses on the causes of conict and human rights abuses. Each lecture incorporates a wide variety of audio and visual material to examine current political and social events such as the growth of terrorism in mainland Europe, nuclear tensions on the Korean peninsula and the use of social media as a propaganda tool.

1. Human Rights: The Movement from Coercion to Co-operation.

2. Them and Us: How the Nazis Created Divisions in Society.

3. Doomsday Clock: Nuclear Weapons and The Changing Nature of War.

4. The Middle East – From the Birth of Islam, To the Rise of I.S.

5. Truth and Reconciliation – Mandela And the Trials of South Africa.

6. “Black Lives Matter” – America’s Struggle with Racism.

7. Fake News and Conspiracy Theories: The War on Truth.

8. Donald Trump and the Rebirth of Right Wing Politics
