Entry Requirements

Education: NFQ Level 5 in a relevant discipline when accessing a Level 6 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 6 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.

Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.

Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a broad range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course and be able to exercise initiative and independence when carrying out course activities.

Careers / Further progression

• Learners pursuing further studies in Art & Design are assisted in the preparation of their (Advanced) portfolios and may apply to Third Level Colleges and Institutes of Technology/Technological University. TUS, NCAD, TUD, Crawford Art College and Art Colleges abroad.
• Holders of this qualification may apply for entry to the second year of a Level 8 Degree programme where relevant (by direct application - not through the CAO).
• Institutes of Technology/Technological University and other Colleges around the country offer opportunities for further studies. Please check with the individual Admissions Offices of any institution you are interested in attending or visit www.cao.ie

This course is suitable for learners with experience in Art Craft and Design who wish to advance their practical and creative skills. Holders of this qualification may apply for entry to the second year of a Level 8 Degree programme where relevant (by direct application - not through the CAO).

The portfolio prepared during this course can be used to apply for the portfolio assessment in LM076 Product Design and Technology or LM099 Architecture in the University of Limerick (UL)

On successful completion of this course learners are awarded a 120 credit NFQ level 6 Major Award in Art.

Learning Outcomes
To facilitate the learner to explore Art with a view to re-skilling/up-skilling and exploring concepts and subject areas that may interest the learner in future programmes or employment
To facilitate the learner to demonstrate skills in a wide range of visual art mediums
To provide a programme of learning that is vocationally specific in nature and flexible in structure so that the learner has the maximum opportunity to improve his/her specialised academic and vocational literacy, numerical, ICT and planning skills while participating in the programme
To enhance the learner’s confidence in his/her ability and to build on his/her skills to reach his/her full potential
To facilitate the learner to develop his/her interpersonal, team working, learning to learn, time keeping and time management skills, as appropriate, so that the learner is enabled to take responsibility for his/her own learning and to support progression including future participation in education and employment
To provide the learner with vocationally specific knowledge, skill and competence at this level, thus affording the learner the opportunity to progress to programmes leading to awards at level 7 or above
To facilitate the learner to develop analytical, reflection and evaluation skills as appropriate to a vocational setting
