The overall aim of this is to equip the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge to the world of the Hairdressing Industry/Environment. The learner will be provided with both academic and technical competencies which allows them to progress into the Hairdressing Senior Trades Course, Hairdressing Apprenticeship Programme and/or smooth integration into the workplace.

Entry Requirements

Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.

Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.

Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

There are no tuition fees payable to the College by EU nationals. However, learners are liable for registration and examination fees. Registration fees vary depending on programme choice. Applicants will be informed of individual programme fees and possible exemptions at interview.

Means-tested Student Maintenance Grants are available to qualifying learners. The administration of these grants was handled by the former Vocational Education Committees (VECs) up to the 2011/12 academic year. A new ONLINE ONLY grant applications system was introduced in the 2012/13 academic year. All applications have to be made online to Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI), the single Awarding Authority for all new student grant applications, through www.susi.ie. If you are thinking of embarking on a programme with us, you should investigate whether you are eligible, and, if so, submit an application.

Pathways to Apprenticeship Hairdressing will lead to QQI Level 5 Award on the National Qualifications Framework. The overall aim of this is to equip the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge to the world of the Hairdressing Industry/Environment. The learner will be provided with both academic and technical competencies which allows them to progress into the Hairdressing Senior Trades Course, Hairdressing Apprenticeship Programme and/or smooth integration into the workplace. The modules they complete as part of their course include Hairdressing Theory and Practice, Hairdressing Science, Customer Service, Communications ,

Work Experience and Interpersonal Skills. All these modules give the participants a huge edge in terms of competencies, skills and expertise gained on their level 5 programme. With our current excellent relationship with existing employers, it is expected that work experience is an excellent opportunity for the employers to assess the calibre of learner here at LCFE. This experience would therefore encourage and motivate the employer to get on board with the newly approved apprenticeship programme.

The Learner will be on block release strategically throughout this programme. There is a strong network of local employer links in the region and LCFE have, over the years, built up good relationships with these employers. This means that employers can be reassured about the quality, suitability and competence of the prospective apprentice. Learners will also have the additional experience of the LCFE college environment and all of its vast and exciting activities throughout the year.

These programmes consist of intensive practical and theoretical training in various aspects of the profession. Learners are trained in state of the art salons. Communications is a mandatory part of all Level 5 and Level 6 programmes and learners are required to participate. It is a necessary skill which is transferable to both personal and work life where benefits can be gained in dealing with everyday experiences.
