Entry Requirements
Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme.
CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English
Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway

Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.
Learners must have successfully completed the Leaving Certificate/LCAP/LCVP Examination or QQI Level 4. An aptitude and interest in engineering is desirable. Special consideration will be given to mature students (over 23) or others who may not have obtained a Leaving Certificate. Entry procedure is by application and possible interview.
Careers / Further progression
On completion of this programme learners will have the skills, knowledge and competency to work independently and under supervision in a range of engineering industry contexts and or to progress to further and or higher education and training.
Graduates of this course are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities.

PLC Maintenance Grant
All applications for grants must be made online to SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland). Applications for the upcoming academic year will open when the Grants Scheme is announced by the Department of Education and Skills.

Please note that the CETS Childcare Scheme run by the Department of Social Protection does now apply to learners on PLC courses.

The Safe Pass legal requirement for the building industry will form an optional part of the course.
Erasmus+ Work Placement in Europe
Selected students will have the opportunity to apply for three-week work experience project in a European city where they can experience another culture; learn the basics of another language & enhance professional & personal knowledge and training. This programme includes the cost of travel and accommodation of participants.
Learners can all achieve a Europass Certificate Supplement with this award.
