Ecosystem Conservation & Regeneration - Applied Ecology
Ireland declared a climate and biodiversity emergency in 2019. This course is ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about the natural world and play an active role in protecting it. Learners will gain the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills needed to address the twin challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss at a local, national, and global level.

Leaving Certificate, LCA or QQI Level 4.
Mature students are exempt from Leaving Certificate requirement.
CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English.

CERTIFICATION:
QQI Level 5 in Applied Ecology (5M5028).
Throughout the course, learners will build a strong foundation in ecology, botany, habitat surveying, and sustainable resource management. Classes, site visits, and hands-on fieldwork will offer opportunities to explore a wide range of habitats, understand their ecological importance, and learn practical ways to protect and restore them for the future.
There is a growing demand for people with ecological knowledge and field skills to help Ireland meet its targets for protecting and restoring species and habitats under the National Biodiversity Action Plan, the Climate Action Plan and the new EU Nature Restoration Law, which aims to restore degraded ecosystems across Europe. Graduates can progress to higher education courses in ecology, environmental science, or conservation biology, or seek employment with national and international organisations working to protect biodiversity and promote sustainability.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
As Learners will be attending the Campus 4 days a week, one weekday will be available for work experience for the duration of their studies. Mid-terms, Christmas and Easter Break will also allow time to complete required work experience hours for the Work Experience Module.
