Healthcare Support - Traineeship
The aim of the programme is to enable the student to develop the knowledge, skill and competencies to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the provision of effective and appropriate healthcare supports to clients in a variety of settings, recognising client’s individual needs, assisting with activities of daily living and maintaining a safe and hygienic healthcare environment.

Entry Requirements
Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.
Applicants whose first language is not English, require a minimum English language and literacy competency of B2 in reading, writing, listening and speaking on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) and may be required to complete an English language test.
Please note if your Nationality is from outside the European Union (EU), you will be required to provide proof of a Valid Stamp 4 with Valid GNIB Number or if you are currently in Direct Provision you will be required to provide a copy of your Temporary Resident Card along with a Labour Market Permission Letter as issued by the Department of Immigration/Foreign Affairs.
Your eligibility and potential offer of a place on this programme is subject to students updating the 'My Details' Section of their FETCH Courses Account and answering all questions under the following headings; General, Social Welfare, Education, My Status. Failure to do so will result in your place offer being withdrawn.
Careers / Further progression
On completion of this Programme, students may pursue roles within the Health, Family and Social Care sector which may include working as Health Care Support Workers, Carers, Youth Workers or in a broad range of roles in this industry in the public, community and private sectors. Recognition of regulatory and statutory bodies is confirmed for some programmes.

Those in receipt of a Social Welfare Payment may be eligible to receive a Training Allowance subject to criteria.
N.B. Students under the age of 25 in receipt of JSA/JSB may be eligible for a top-up payment whilst participating on this course. Applicants not eligible for the training allowance may receive support with travel/subsistence costs.

An additional module, 5N3734 Infection Prevention and Control, will be delivered on this course
In addition to the L5 Major Award 5M4339 Healthcare Support modules offered on this course, training in Patient Handling, First Aid Responder and MAPA will be provided.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this programme students will have the skills, knowledge and competencies to work independently and under supervision in providing support in a variety of Healthcare settings and or to progress to higher education and training.
Students that successfully complete the Healthcare Support Course will be equipped with a skill set that is hugely in demand both regionally and nationally. On completion students will possess a comprehensive set of skills and competencies appropriate to entry level positions in the healthcare sector. Alternatively successful students may progress to higher education in the Healthcare sector.
