This is a full-time training course, hours: 8.30am - 3.45pm Monday to Thursday, 8.30am - 12.45pm on Fridays.

Entry Requirements

Education: The learner who has either successfully completed a programme leading to a level 4 FETAC Certificate or equivalent.

Aptitude: Proficiently read, draft, prepare and understand information across a broad range of topics, for example, in relation to a community concern or a work based plan or solution. Proficiently read, draft, prepare and understand quantitative information. Assume partial responsibility for consistency of self understanding and behaviour. Solve predictable problems, independently and as part of a familiar and less familiar group.

Demonstrate a range of practical and cognitive skills and tools. Act with a considerable amount of responsibility and autonomy. Attend timetabled classes for the duration of the programme. Complete self directed hours of learning in the form of practice time, preparation, study time and reflection time, as appropriate. Participate in all programme related activities. Participate in work experience, as appropriate. Good Colour Vision essential.

Previous Experience: To access programmes leading to this award the learner should have reached the standards of knowledge, skill and competence associated with the preceding level of the National Framework of Qualifications. This may have been achieved through a formal qualification or through relevant life and work experience. Full time/part time work experience in a commerical hairdressing salon desirable.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:
This is a full-time course delivered entirely in the English language. Applicants must have a sufficient level of proficiency to use the English language to make and communicate meaning in spoken and written contexts while completing their program of study.

If English is not your first language, you may be asked to complete a language assessment to determine your language proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The proficiency required will depend on the level of award associated with your course of study.

ELIGIBILITY:

*Applicants must have permission to study and live in Ireland and have good verbal, comprehension, and written command of the English language.

*Applicants must demonstrate an ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out by the course and a clear desire to work in chosen subject area

COST / FUNDING SUPPORTS:
The course is free of charge, if you are in receipt of a social welfare payment when the course starts, you may be entitled to a training allowance for the duration.
Other available supports include meals, travel and/or accommodation allowances.

As part of the traineeship you will:

* acquire a basic knowledge of hair styling and design
* gain an understanding in the organisation and the workings of a hairdressing salon
* become proficient at basic hairdressing skills
* understand the Health and Safety issues in relation to chemicals in hairdressing

This is a practical, hands-on traineeship that is flexible in structure, giving you the the maximum opportunity to improve your interpersonal skills, team working, problem solving, time management ICT and planning skills while operating in a fully functioning salon classroom environment.

You will undertake work experience in a real-life salon business to enhance your confidence and allow you to reflect on and evaluate your performance. This traineeship will support your progression including future participation in education and/or employment in the hairdressing industry.

Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate a broad range of knowledge related to the theory and practice of hairdressing.

Demonstrate understanding of specific hairdressing techniques and the range of client focused services required in a hairdressing environment.

Demonstrate a broad range of skills in assessing client hair types, discussing appropriate styles, applying colouring techniques and perming in accordance with appropriate safety, health and service requirements.

Exercise judgement in complying with appropriate industry practice in providing hairdressing services in response to clients' requirements.
