Finance - Accounting Technician Apprenticeship
The Accounting Technician Apprenticeship is a two-year, work-based learning programme which leads to a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Accounting.

Duration
A two-year, work-based learning programme
Apprentices work with their local employer four days a week and attend classes on a Tuesday during academic college term time. Outside of college term, an apprentice will attend work five days a week.
Entry Requirements
Entry Requirements *
A minimum of 300 CAO points (or equivalent) with a pass grade in English, and Maths or Accounting.
If you sat the Leaving Certificate more than 5 years ago, you should have a minimum of 300 CAO points (or equivalent) with a D3 in Ordinary Level and Maths or Accounting.
If you do not have a pass in Leaving Certificate English or equivalent, then you must be able to supply evidence of competency in written and spoken English.
PLC students or other previous qualification holders are eligible to apply if the qualification is in a different discipline and is an NFQ Level 5 or above.
Applicants should have a flair for accounting and be able to commit to completing the programme syllabus while working in full-time employment over the two years.
* If you are over 21 and lack the minimum educational requirements, you can register as a mature learner based on age and experience. Prior learning may also provide an entry route for those who do not meet these criteria.

Accounting Technicians are qualified accounting professionals who work across all levels of finance within a company in a variety of roles – from payroll manager, audit associate and accounts assistant, to finance manager and managing director.
Graduates can complete further professional studies with the ATI Level 8 Apprenticeship Degree - Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology

Our next apprenticeship intake starts in September 2026 and is two-years in length. Apprentices work with their local employer four days a week and attend classes on a Tuesday during academic college term time. Outside of college term, an apprentice will attend work five days a week.

Qualify as an Accounting Technician with our two-year work-based education training programme in conjunction with Accounting Technicians Ireland. In this fully-funded programme, study with us whilst gaining significant experience working with an employer and earning a salary of at least €27,593 per year. The Apprenticeship combines classroom, online, and on-the job learning.
It is open to a wide range of employers, across all industry sectors, both large and small firms, on a national basis.
What is an Accounting Technician?
Accounting Technicians are qualified accounting professionals who work across all levels of finance within a company in a variety of roles – from payroll manager, audit associate and accounts assistant, to finance manager and managing director.
Performing critical business tasks such as accounts management, budgeting, and forecasting, Accounting Technicians work in national public bodies, global professional services, family-owned businesses, private accounting practices, and a wide range of industry.
The Accounting Technician supports all elements of the accounts function, including income and expenditure, balance sheet transactions, statutory returns and payroll requirements and is involved in the day-to-day practical work of accountancy and plays a key operational role in producing reliable financial information.
In Year 1, apprentices study four modules:
• Financial Accounting
• Taxation
• Business Law
• Business Management
In Year 2, apprentices study another four modules:
• Advanced Financial Accounting
• Advanced Taxation
• Management Accounting
• Financial Data Management
Award
Apprentices graduate with an industry-recognised Level 6 QQI Advanced Certificate in Accounting, and tuition is funded by the state agency SOLAS. Graduating enables you to join the professional Member network (ATI) and use of the designatory letters MIATI.
