Course Delivery
24 months (4 semesters) is the minimum duration.

This programme is available online only. All classes are delivered over the Internet and all practical work is completed using MTU’s cloud infrastructure.

Entry Requirements

Entry to the MSc in Software Architecture & Design (Apprenticeship Mode) requires:

Holding a Level 8 or Level 7 degree in Computer Science/IT or related fields.
Being employed by an Irish-based company/industry.

What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.

Career options
Successful candidates, upon graduation, will be equipped with a wide range of techniques and technologies from two main streams: 1) Academic and 2) Industry. Therefore, after graduation, learners can be well-suited for roles such as software developer, engineer, software architect, senior member of a development team, technical leader, and communicator.

Modules include Software Design & Architecture, Software Process Engineering, Computing Research & Practice, Scalable Microservices, Big Data Processing and Software Work Experience 1, 2 and 3.

Hands-on labs are provided through MTU’s private cloud, giving students 24/7 access to CMS.

Award
Master of Science in Software Architecture and Design (Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications).

What will I study?
Learners will study theoretical and practical modules, including Software Design & Architecture, Software Process Engineering, Computing Research & Practice, Scalable Microservices, Big Data Processing, and three work experience modules conducted by the industry in conjunction with the University. In the final semester, learners will take a module called 'Computing Research Study' to reflect on what they have learned.
