An interest in working as a Healthcare Professional. Work experience in the area would be an advantage.

Career Opportunities
The Healthcare Service Skills award is the Department of Health’s recommended qualification for all Healthcare Assistants working in the public and private sector. After completing the programme, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy assistants can work in any healthcare setting under the supervision of qualified Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists.
Progression
Graduates who achieve the required standard may progress to further studies in the FET sector at level 6 or to IT Colleges/Universities through the Higher Education Links Scheme as outlined in this brochure.

SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland) is Ireland’s single national awarding authority for all higher and further education grants. SUSI offers funding to eligible students in approved full-time third-level education in Ireland and also, in some cases, funding for students studying outside of Ireland.

The purpose of this award is to enable students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competence to work under supervision in providing support in Rehabilitative Healthcare settings. The demand for skilled and competent rehabilitative healthcare assistants is expected to grow significantly over the coming years.

Additional Training
Occupational First Aid and Patient Moving & Handling is also offered.
Work Experience
Supervised clinical experience in nursing homes, hospitals, and other health facilities is incorporated into this course. This will take the form of one day per week for the academic year
Students will be required to undertake Garda Vetting procedures prior to work placement.
