Entry Requirements
Entry to the course is through either a formal qualification or industry experience. Candidates applying with a formal qualification are required to have already completed a level 7 degree or equivalent. Familiarity with digital media, and media sharing platforms and services are desirable. Qualifications can be in a range of areas, including media production, sound production, journalism, or graphic design. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/advanced entry will be applicable for candidates with industry experience but lacking a formal qualification.
What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.

The Certificate in Television Production is aimed at those wanting to launch a career in TV programme making, as well as those already in the industry wanting to upskill.
It combines study of the media market, both domestic and international, with specialised training in craft and production. Lectures will introduce students to the current industry environment with in-depth knowledge of media ownership, funding models and programme formats. Students will develop the professional skills required to launch a career within the television production sector.
What will you be doing?
The emphasis in Semester One is on researching and developing programme strands and documentary concepts. In Semester Two students are on work experience and will learn about audio visual production, TV directing, camera operating, sound recording and video editing, live programming and documentary making..

*The TV Industry Placement module provides students with valuable experience of both initial on site industry practice as well as specialised training. Participants will have an opportunity to work in a wide range of television production areas including live studio programming, outside broadcasting, research and concept development, camera and sound. Industry partners will collaborate in identifying appropriate skillsets that students can develop and in which they will receive hands-on experience.
