Students will explore various photographic categories like Portraiture, Still Life Photography, Fine Art Photography, along with Advertising Photography and Personal and Professional Development. Students will have the opportunity to work with large format cameras and explore darkroom practices.

Education: NFQ Level 5 in a relevant discipline when accessing a Level 6 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 6 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.

This one-year full time course will equip the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge they developed in the level 5 programme and progress to a higher standard of technical ability and conceptual thinking. Students will explore various photographic categories like Portraiture, Still Life Photography, Fine Art Photography, along with Advertising Photography and Personal and Professional Development. Students will have the opportunity to work with large format cameras and explore darkroom practices. Students will continue using a wide range of still and video capturing tools including traditional film cameras, professional digital cameras and drones. A greater emphasis is placed on creative thinking and a conceptual approach to photography in this advanced course. There is a demand for participants to be able to work both self-directed and as a team member throughout the course. It is the combination of technical skill and creative, artistic photography that is fundamental to the learning outcomes of this programme. Our graduates will be skilled in meeting the changing demands of the
increasingly complex photographic industry.
Past learners are engaged in a variety of employments – working as professional photographers or are self-employed/freelance. Others have set up their own studios.

On successful completion of this course learners will be awarded a 120 credit QQI level 6 Major Award in Photography

Learning Outcomes
- To facilitate the learner to explore Photography with a view to re-skilling/up-skilling and exploring concepts and subject areas that may interest the learner in future programmes or employment
- To provide a programme of learning that is vocationally specific in nature and flexible in structure so that the learner has the maximum opportunity to improve his/her specialised academic and vocational literacy, numerical, ICT and planning skills while participating in the programme
- To enhance the learner’s confidence in his/her ability and to build on his/herskills to reach his/herfull potential
- To facilitate the learner to develop his/herinterpersonal, team working, learning to learn, time keeping and time management skills,as appropriate,so that the learner is enabled to take responsibility for his/her own learning and to support progression including future participation in education and employment
- To provide the learner with vocationally specific knowledge, skill and competence at this level, thus affording the learner the opportunity to progress to programmes leading to awards at level 7 or above
- To facilitate the learner to develop analytical, reflection and evaluationskills as appropriate to a vocational setting
