If you love music, this is the course for you! The course has been redeveloped and now includes a Music Technology module. Packed also with other interesting modules which explore the wonderful world of music, this programme is designed to nurture instrumentalists and singers of every level – from the complete novice to the more experienced musician. Students are given the opportunity to avail of the college recording studio and even publish their own compositions with the inclusion of the new Music Technology module. The course enables students to follow the practical side of performance, while also providing a strong foundation in Music Theory. This course is also and ideal preparation for 3rd Level courses in Music and careers in the music industry. Successful students will be awarded a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Music.

Duration

This is a one-year full time course and runs from September to May.

Entry Requirements

Any of the following would satisfy entry requirements:
Leaving Certificate/LCVP or Leaving Cert Applied

QQI Level 4 qualification

Mature students (age 23+) with relevant experience or ability are also welcome to apply

Interview – An ear-test is performed at interview, at which candidates will also be asked to sing or play an instrument.

Progression/Career Opportunities:
This course is an excellent preparation for the Audition requirements at 3rd Level and careers in the Music industry. It has an excellent track record of graduate progression to Music Courses at 3rd Level, including NUI Maynooth, Dundalk IT, Waterford IT, Dublin IT.

Further information

To accept your place, students will be asked to pay exam fees of €50 for QQI Level 5 or €80 for QQI Level 6 Examinations.

Medical Card holders are exempt from paying both of those fees, but must produce a valid medical card to accept their place.

Those in receipt of a Student Grant, a Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) or a Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) allowance may also be exempt, but must provide evidence of same. A student services fee of €100 is also payable by all students to accept your place.
