Applicants with a passion for working with animals, a willingness to work hard and a commitment to study. You will be responsible for securing an appropriate off site work placement before the beginning of the course.

Entry Requirements
QQI Award e.g. QQI Level 5 in Animal Science/Animal Care 5M2768.
Note: Students should note that some of the practical work on this course requires some physical effort and direct contact with animals. Consequently, students with any back problems, respiratory illnesses or allergies or indeed any other injuries or conditions should discuss this matter with the course coordinator at enrolment. You must have proof of a current tetanus vaccination.
Mature students are welcome to apply. Formal academic qualifications not required.

Level 6 is directed more at employment/setting up your own business.
This Award can act as a gateway into the animal industry. As this is a level 6, more responsible roles in Pet care are open to graduates. Past students are working in animal welfare organisations (Dogs Trust); DSPCA; Safari Parks (Emerald Park); as Animal Care Assistants in veterinary clinics, pet stores, kennels, stables and in Dublin Zoo.
TUS Letterkenny will accept Animal Science Level 6 for Advanced Entry into year 2 of their Vet Nursing degree should places be available.

How Will I Learn?
You will have a mixture of classroom-based subjects, laboratory practicals, mandatory work placement and independent study. You will be expected to complete assignments throughout the year.
Course runs in North Strand Campus and in Cathal Brugha St Campus.
