Duration
15 weeks, Tuesday and Thursday evening.
This course will be blended, with some classes in-person and some online.
This course is delivered over two years, Autumn 2026, Spring 2027, Autumn 2027 and Spring 2028. Each term is 15 weeks. You will complete two modules per term, completing eight modules in total over the duration of the course to achieve the QQI Level 5 Major Award.
Entry Requirements
Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), non-native English speakers need a B2 level in writing, reading, listening, and speaking.
NOTE: The following are required in order to complete this course:

• Adequate broadband connection
• Good IT skills
Careers / Further progression
Those who successfully complete this course, can progress to further and higher education and training, as this qualification provides a strong foundation for entry into Level 6 courses in healthcare and related fields.
Graduates may also use this qualification to apply for employment in a variety of healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, residential care, and community support services as a Healthcare Assistant or Support Worker in public and private care settings

This course will take place in Greencastle Community Centre, Drumaweir, Greencastle, Co. Donegal.
Cost: €500 per term

On successful completion of this course, you will receive the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) Level 5 Certificate in Healthcare Support.
Work placement/work experience may be a core feature/element of programmes in this field facilitating the enhancement of employability and transversal skills.
- Only students who have not completed any of the listed modules will be accepted on to this course.
- Students need to have level 4 skills and knowledge from the National Qualifications Framework (NFQ) to succeed in this course. You can show this through relevant life and work experience as no formal qualifications are required for entry to this course.
- Students must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to gain the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
