Course Content:
Students start with some small projects to learn the basic skills and techniques of Relief Woodcarving, then work on progressively more complex projects in various Hardwood timbers, also to design their own work if possible. We start off using Pine, spend 2 - 3 weeks working on project one, learning correct methods, techniques, use of chisels and gouges. Then students move onto their own project. Week 1, 2 & 3 – Learn the basic skills & an Initial project Week 3 onwards - Students work on their own individual project.

Andrew Kirrane studied Furniture Design in GMIT Letterfrack and is an experienced Woodwork Teacher of 12 years. He currently teaches Wood Technology / Construction Studies fulltime in Post Primary, as well as having seven years’ experience teaching various adult night classes in Crumlin College, Westport CFE and Medicity amongst others. From time to time he gives short Woodwork courses to various schools and fellow teachers on specialist subjects.
