The aim of this programme is to enable the learner acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to manage golf and sports turf environments using a range of specialised skills.

Duration
This is a one year, full time course running from September to May.
Entry Requirements
- Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent.
- For mature students these requirements need not apply and applications will be considered based on a proven interest in organic farming.
- Entry will be subject to interview.

Mayo College of Further Education & Training is offering no tuition fees for September 2026, which covers exam fees, student consumables, and journals. This includes courses across campuses in Ballina, Castlebar, and Westport, aimed at relieving the cost of living crisis. Some specific courses or materials might still have costs, but tuition is free.

This course has been designed to meet the increasing demand for high quality turf surfaces in golf and field sports nationally and internationally. Students carry out practical work on the colleges’ sports pitches which include a natural soccer pitch, natural GAA/Rugby pitch and synthetic soccer pitch. Field trips to other sports turf facilities and golf courses are central to the course. On successful completion of the course students will have gained the knowledge and skills required to maintain golf courses and sports turf facilities. Graduates of this program are equipped to work or indeed continue their study at limitless turf grass maintenance facilities worldwide.
There is an opportunity to partake in Erasmus+ placements.
