Entry Requirements

Mature applicants (i.e., over 23 years)
or
Leaving Certificate Grade O6 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish)
or
QQI Level 5 – Full award with a minimum of eight modules

Careers / Further progression

Graduates of the Certificate in Financial Accounting and Payroll will have developed a strong foundation in essential accounting principles and payroll practices, equipping them with skills directly relevant to roles in finance, payroll administration, and bookkeeping. Upon successful completion of this 60-credit certificate, students may progress to Year Two of the Higher Certificate in Business (Level 6). This progression pathway enables learners to continue building their expertise in core business disciplines, enhancing their career opportunities in finance, administration, and business support roles, or preparing for further study at degree level

It is suited to those currently working in or aspiring to roles in these areas. The programme is also open to those looking to reskill or return to work, provided they meet the entry requirements.

Developed in collaboration with industry, the course reflects up-to-date practices and legislative requirements, with a focus on how effective administrative and financial processes contribute to business efficiency and compliance across sectors.

Learners will develop a strong foundation in key administrative functions and financial operations, with an emphasis on real-world application across various industries.

Upon Completion, Graduates Will:
Have a detailed understanding of the principles and processes of bookkeeping, payroll, and office administration

Be able to carry out a wide range of manual and computerised payroll procedures

Possess the knowledge to apply accounting principles to support business operations

Be ready to take on roles in a variety of settings, from SMEs to larger organisations, in both public and private sectors
